WILLIAM SILLS RAGAN

William Sills Ragan, 78, passed away on January 13, 2025.

His memorial service was held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Rev. Galen Mirate officiated. The family received friends prior to the service beginning at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Bill was born in Eufaula, AL on September 23, 1946. His family moved to Albany when he was six months old. Bill graduated from Albany High School in the Class of 1964.

As an ROTC Cadet at The Citadel, he attended officer candidate school and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve. He completed military occupational training at the 5th Armored Brigade, US Army Air Defense School, Fort Bliss, Texas. Bill transferred to Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. After his military service at Ft. Bliss, TX, he returned to Albany to work alongside his father at Flint Beverage Co., Inc., where he retired in 2012.

Bill loved hunting, fishing, and genealogy research and enjoyed his hobby farm in Terrell County.

Throughout his life, he loved spending time in Eufaula, AL, with his Ragan-Johnston family, with whom he was very close. Well-respected and kind, he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ellis Ragan, Jr. and Margie Sills Ragan, and his sister, Caroline “Mici” Ragan Ansell.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 41 years: Kay Griffin Ragan; two sons: William Sills Ragan, Jr. and Griffin Andrew Ragan; brother: Dr. Charles Ellis “Sonny” Ragan, III; nephew: Charles Ellis “El” Ragan, IV; niece: Dr. Deirdre Ragan Fillippa (Pat); and numerous cousins from Eufaula.
