Rebecca Joan McLendon Westbrook, age 84, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayton at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Curtis Rich and Reverend Josh Powell officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing. The family received friends from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at Glover Funeral Home in Clayton.
Mrs. Westbrook was born January 5, 1937 in Clio. She was the daughter of the late Bennie Foy McLendon and Tallie Mae McLendon. She was married to the late Ray Westbrook for 70 years before his death on February 10, 2021. She was lovingly known to her children as “Mama” and to her grandchildren as “Mammaw.”
Mrs. Westbrook retired from the Barbour County Board of Education where she was a school bus driver for 26 years. In the past, she loved to sew and made clothes for herself, her children and grandchildren. Rebecca was a faithful member of Evergreen Baptist Church for over 70 years where she had in years past taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, served as Music Director and as Church Treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray Westbrook, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Eva Westbrook, grandson, Larry B. Hatfield, II, her sisters, Lula Baxley, Benetta Dykes (Gene), along with several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Tommy Westbrook (Connie) of Louisville, Rosalyn W. Hatfield (Larry) of Eufaula, Cathy W. Martin (Dick) of Clayton, Janell W. Miller (Mickey) of Eufaula, Dennis Westbrook (Yvette) of Eufaula; ten grandchildren, Heather (John) Bush, April (Jason) Pickett, Amy (Lamar) Boswell, Melissa Martin Miller, Drew (Kristy) Martin, Misty (Tom) Rosier, April Miller (Bryan Brinkerhoff), Justin Westbrook (fiancé Haley Gulledge Calhoun), Laura (Josh) Cobb, Meredith Rutland; seventeen great-grandchildren, Raeleigh (Kinnen) Perry, Claudia Pickett, Emma Claire Boswell, Austin Boswell, Alex (Clayton) Self, Kathryn Miller, Anna Miller, Maggie Miller, Audrey Martin, Chassidy Rhodes, Rhylee Rhodes, Kaylee Aardema, TJ Rosier, Mya Rosier, Vada Westbrook, Kaylee Calhoun, Carson Cobb, Copeland Cobb; one great-great-grandchild, Rylee Elizabeth Self, and a great-great grandson, Oakland Jase Perry, due in April 2022; a brother and sister-in-law, Danny Joe and Lavene Westbrook; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Extendicare Health Center in Dothan and Ramona Kennedy, RN, with Southern Care Hospice for all the love and care shown to their mother.
Asked to serve as pallbearers were Greg Green, Tony Hurst, Mike McCraney, Bo Rowland, Shug Rowland and Steve Strickland.
