KEITH GUTHRIE

Mr. Keith Guthrie, a resident of Clayton, Alabama passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Clayton Baptist Church in Clayton and burial followed in the Clayton City Cemetery. Joe Guthrie officiated with Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing. The family received friends an hour prior to the service at the church.

Keith was born October 17, 1943, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the son of Joseph Herman Guthrie and Margaret K. Guthrie. He graduated from Theodore High School in 1963. He graduated from Troy State University in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education majoring in History. Keith worked as a teacher at Clayton High School for several years. He also worked as a Social Worker for the Department of Human Resources for 24 years until his retirement. After retiring, he worked for numerous years for the Board of Registrars. Keith was a loving husband, father and a devoted grandfather. In his spare time, he enjoyed history (especially WWII), squirrel hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Keith was a faithful member of Clayton Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Clayton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Jackie Warr Guthrie, Clayton; daughter, Elizabeth Guthrie Smith (Reed), Marietta, GA; brother, Joe Guthrie (Becky),

Chancellor; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Guthrie, Dauphin Island, Elaine Killingsworth (Thomas), Clayton; brother-in-law, Joe Warr, Saint Simons Island, GA; two grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Smith, Mountain Brook, AL, Allen Keith Smith, Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Asked to serve as pallbearers were Charles “Bob” Sewell, Brian Kizer, Ken Killingsworth, Tyler Killingsworth, Jeremy Brown and Caleb Brown.

Keith suffered from type one diabetes since the age of 15, so the family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his honor to: Diabetes Research Institute Foundation 200 S Park Road Suite 100, Hollywood, FL 33021
