Mrs. Janice South, 68, of Clayton died at her home on January 15, 2022. Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery, located at 1501 Talladega Highway in Sylacauga with Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating.
Mrs. South was a long time resident of Clayton. She retired after working many years as an administrative assistant with the Historic Chattahoochee Commission in Eufaula. She worked part-time as a reporter with The Clayton Record and served as a member of the Barbour County Board of Education for a six-year term from 2004 until 2010 representing District 2.
She was born July 19, 1953 and was a member of the Class of 1971 at Childersburg High School. She was an avid reader, loved history, and followed politics. She had a special love for children and animals.
She is survived by her husband, William, and a sister, Karen Hancock, of Cullman. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nalgie Barnes, and brother, Jackie Barnes.
