Former civic leader, Annie Smith, dies

Former veteran employee of the Auburn Cooperative Extension System, community and church leader Annie Mae Smith died July 4 at her home in Clayton.

She began her career with the Extension System in Barbour County before her degree was conferred at Sparks Community College. She worked there for a number of years before she was recruited to work at the Extension Office on the campus of Auburn University. She then left the university and worked for a few years at Southland Bank before returning to ACES once again. She worked on campus a number of years before returning to the county office where she worked for several years before retiring in July 2011.
