ERIC RANDOLPH LANGHAM

Eric Randolph Langham was born November 21, 1950, at home in Grand Ledge, Michigan.

He died at home, in presence of his loving wife Ruta Lusis Langham in Georgetown, Georgia on May 15, 2023.

Mr. Langham was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly after he finished high school. He served with the Medical Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division as a helicopter medic in the northern combat zone of Vietnam.

Eric and his Med-Evac helicopter crew rescued hundreds of seriously wounded young Americans. His death resulted from complications from various injuries he sustained during his honorable, brave, and arduous wartime service. After his military service Eric returned to Michigan where he found some measure of peace, in the forest, there as a highly skilled and successful logger. Further, Eric followed up on additional training as a helicopter mechanic and pilot, both which he excelled in. Mr. Langham parlayed his logging and business experience into becoming a builder of beautiful log homes. Due to the economic conditions, that enterprise failed, and he was urged to declare bankruptcy. However Eric honored his obligations to his several creditors, at great financial sacrifice. Soon after this reversal, fortune smiled on him in the form of Miss Ruta Lusis being introduced to him at the Grand Ledge Airport where Eric, the pilot, took Ruta on her first helicopter flight. A year later the couple took another flight, this time to Las Vegas on a commercial airliner -Not a helicopter- where they were married.

About 2005 Mr. and Mrs. Langham moved to Eufaula where Eric became the manager of the Eufaula Airport as well as a master aircraft mechanic. Former Mayor Jay Jaxon recently noted that Eric greatly enhanced the quality and number of services at the Eufaula Airport while serving as a highly competent, gracious and witty ambassador to many hundreds of pilots, passengers, and military personnel using the airport for some 15 years Eric Langham was in charge.

Mr. Langham is survived by his wife, Ruta, his children, Rebecca, John, and Lesley, four grandchildren, Ami, Darian, Quinn, Eliana; and his siblings, Cris, Max, Michelle, Cindy, and Lydia.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11 A.M. CDT at Chapman Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Georgetown Cemetery with Chapman Funeral Home directing.
