Dorothy Sheppard Hays, a resident of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in Panama City, Florida. She was 89.
The family received friends Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Glover Funeral Home, (1468 Hartford Highway, Dothan, AL, 36301).
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 at Enon Baptist Church, (3536 Co. Rd. 6631, Banks, AL 36005) with Rev. Averyt Walker, Rev. Ben Wesley and Rev. Cecil Clark officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Kendall Glover directing. The family received friends at the church from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Friday prior to service time.
Mrs. Hays was born August 16, 1933 in Barbour County to Charlie and Fannie Dawson Sheppard and grew up in Barbour County. She and her husband, Lamar, operated a farm and poultry houses in Pike County for many years until they moved to Eufaula in 1985. They also owned and operated Eufaula Florist for 15 years. She loved flower arranging and was a member of the Red Hat Society. In 2000 she moved to Dothan. Mrs. Hays was a member of Heritage Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and loved her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lamar Hays, a son, Terrill Hays, four sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include a son, James Hays (Linda) of Dothan, daughter, Betty Brewer (Robert) of Panama City Beach, FL, son, Randy Hays, of Headland; grandchildren, Mike Hays, Julie Timmons (Shane), Elliott Wesley, Josh Hays (Angela), Jennifer Wesley, Will Hays (Brittani), Peyton Hays, Jeff Stenslend, Angie Roberson (Josh), Clint Brewer, Curt Brewer (Lisa), Kendra Henry (Ross), Aaron Brewer; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Josh Hays, Will Hays, Dewayne Hays, Jason Sheppard, Jeff Stensland, Richard Debose and Allen Peacock.
