Christene Cordell Brown, a resident of Edwin, Alabama, passed away early Saturday morning, August 24, 2024 at her home. She was 83.
Graveside services were held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 26, 2024 at New Prospect Freewill Baptist Church (Edwin Community) with Reverend Danny Henderson officiating.
Mrs. Brown was born in Barbour County to the late Ruby J. Cordell and Nellie Gulledge Cordell. She attended Baker Hill High School, Class of 1959. She worked at West Point Stevens until her retirement after thirty-five years. She was a past member of the Edwin Homemaker’s Club. Mrs. Christene was our precious gift. With a prayer filled heart and boxes of oatmeal cream pies, she loved her family and friends well. She lived a full life on the farm, sitting in the sun, under the pecan trees. She would often sneak off to take walks to the mailbox. If you ever visited during the holidays, surely you tried her famous divinity and enjoyed a slice of pound cake (or two!).
She was a lover of Alabama football, the Atlanta Braves, and a Waffle House date. Most importantly, she was a woman of faith. She led her family, as well as many others, to the feet of Jesus. With full hearts and bellies, we hold dear all that she was- a wife, a mom, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a sister, and a friend close to us all. And just know, when you enjoy an oatmeal cream pie, she will be enjoying one too. Only this time, it’s with Jesus!
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty three years, Wayne Brown; sons, Donald “Duck” Brown and Ronald Brown; siblings, Sadie Smith and Pete Smith, Rufus Cordell and Josie Cordell, JC Cordell, Sr., Winnie Blankenship and Hubert Blankenship, Woodrow Cordell, Ruben Lee (Doodle) Cordell and Myrtle, and Johnny Cordell.
