CHARLES BOWDEN, SR.

Charles Bowden Sr. a resident of Clayton, Alabama, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Clayton, Alabama with Reverend Don Highland officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A visitation was held Monday, September 5, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Clayton. Funeral services were streamed via Facebook Live on Glover Funeral Home of Eufaula and Clayton’s Facebook page. Flowers were accepted, or donations can be made to Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, 486 County Road 53, Clayton, Alabama 36016.

Charles was born October 23, 1934 in Clayton, Alabama to Bunyan Bowden and Jason Benton Wise Bowden. He was a hardworking man who loved spending time with his family. Charles faithfully served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a founder of Bowden Trucking Company in Clayton, Alabama. Charles was a faithful lifetime member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, trucking and working hard.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Annie Louise Gachet Bowden; and brother, John Bunyan Bowden.

Left to cherish his memories are his son; Charles F. Bowden Jr (Karen); daughter, Donna B. Knight (Jimbo); brother, James Edward Bowden (Karen L.); four grandchildren, Jason Bowden (April), Kevin Bowden, Nicole Dunn (Cyrus), Joshua Knight (Heather); eight greatgrandchildren, Whitney McLendon, Trace Anderson, Ashlyn Anderson, John Bowden II, Haley Bowden, Alexis Dunn, Hunter Knight, Emma Dunn; three great greatgrandchildren, Lashun Conley, Kayson Conley, and Aiden Conley.

Asked to serve as pallbearers were John K. Bowden II, Kevin Bowden, Jason Bowden, Joshua Knight, Cyrus Dunn, and Mike Ohearn.

Honorary pallbearers were Dan Trammell, Mike Miller, Larry Morris, and Eddie Davis.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice (especially his nurse Ashley) and his caregivers, Trina Williams, Tonya Robertson, Carol Streeter, and Carol Massey for all the love and special care they provided.
