Wetumpka Indians defeat Eufaula Tigers

Eufaula was scheduled to host the Wetumpka Indians last Friday night, but the weather had other ideas and caused yet another change to a regularly scheduled game this season. With uncertainty surrounding Hurricane Helene and the expected heavy rainfall, an agreement was reached to flip flop the 2-game series and move the game to Wetumpka and their artificial “Field Turf” playing surface. Practice schedules were also affected with the Tigers calling off their Thursday practice as the City schools were out on Thursday. It didn’t appear to affect the Tigers as they moved quickly down the field on their first possession, to a first down on the Indian 15-yard line before the drive stalled. Cooper Wingate came in to kick a 30 yard field goal to give Eufaula the lead 3-0. That would turn out to be the only points of the game for the Tigers however. Eufaula’s defense played well most of the night, holding Wetumpka to only 2 first downs the entire first half and coming up with a interception by Jalen Parker. The only big play for the Indians in the first half was a 69-yard run for touchdown by Justin Godwin to give Wetumpka the halftime lead, 7-3.
