BY ANDRE WRIGHT The Daniel Powell era at Barbour County High got off to a rocky start as the Jaguars got shut out on the road Friday night to the Pataula Charter Panthers 52-0 in Edison, Georgia. The Panthers jumped out to a 19-0 first quarter lead, 39-0 at the half and 52-0 going to the final stanza.

Yamandu Acosta, whose legacy of hospitality, the culinary arts, and service lives on with those who knew him, was posthumously awarded the highest honor by the Alabama Lions Club. Acosta, who was a resident of Eufaula at the time of his death in 2018 and a former resident of Clayton, was one of the inductees in the Alabama Lions Hall of Fame during ceremonies held at Wallace Community College in Hanceville this month.
BY ANDRE WRIGHT New Barbour County High School Jaguar head football coach Daniel Powell is ready to start a new era this season as his team will open up this Friday night at Pataula Charter School (Ga.) The Jaguars are coming off a 1-9 season a year ago getting a forfeit win over Stewart County (Ga.). They have not won a game on the field since 2013.
The G.W. Long Rebels of Skipperville will open their football season with a Jamboree game against McKenzie Friday night, August 19. The following Friday night, August 26, the Rebels will open their regular season when they go up against the Samson Red Tops. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Skipperville.
