The Lakeside School hosted the AISA Class 2A Junior Varsity Invitational Tournament for the first time January 21. A total of 16 boys and girls teams throughout the state competed at the school’s gym and at the Eufaula Community Center.
The Barbour County High Jaguar basketball teams made it a clean sweep over their rival, the Bullock County Hornets, before a packed gym in an earlier loss to the Lady Hornets. Sophomores Anesia Eutsey and Tamia Peterson led the team with 11 points each, Enasia Ivory 8, Brakiah Russell 7, ZyPrestiny Patterson 2 and Aaliyah Whitehead 19 for the Lady Rebels.
Deer hunting is a popular recreational pastime for many Alabamians and especially in Barbour County. Recently it was reported that a 16-yearold hunter was injured when he fell from a climbing stand when his harness failed. The accident occurred on property located on Poor House Road near Clayton. He was transferred by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Three area players were named to the Dothan Eagle Super 12 Football Team recently. Two were from Eufaula High School and one was from Ariton High School. Yhonzae Pierre, a senior defensive lineman/ tight end, for the Eufaula Tigers is an Alabama signee. In 10 games he had 64 tackles (51 solos); 23 tackles for losses, 10 quarterback sacks, 4 forced fumbles; 1 fumble recovery for a touchdown; 4 receptionsfor 50 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was chosen to play in the Alabama-Mississippi game.
Rodarius Jaiquan (Rara) Thomas, Mississippi State Bulldog wide receiver, recently announced his decision to transfer to the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia dipped into the transfer portal for the first time in two years to secure Thomas, who was Mississippi State’s top receiver this season.
December 20, 2022 Lakeside Varsity Girls 51 Glenwood 54 Chloe Helms scored 30 points 4 rebounds 4 assists and 2 steals. Eliza Eriksen had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Barbour County High Jaguars Varsity boys and girls basketball teams got a big Class 2A, Area 3 win over the Ariton Purple Cats at home last Thursday with the boys winning 68-65 and the girls 50-15. The Junior Varsity lost its game 4238. It was the first area game for both teams.
The Lakeside Varsity girls won their first game in the Johnny Shoemaker/ Rickey Ward Holiday Invitational Tournament held over the weekend but lost the second game. The team was victorious over Evangel Christian 44-14 but lost to Terrell Academy 43-44.
Thelma’s Kitchen Lake City Classic was held Friday night, December 23 in Eufaula.hosted by Eufaula High School. In the first game, the Eufaula Lady Tigers defeated the Carroll High School Eagles 62 to 43.
