The Dothan Eagle announced its top boys and girls Super 12 basketball team and Honorable Mention players over the weekend. Several local athletes were named to the team after having a good season.
Buck McDonald has been named new head varsity football coach for The Lakeside School in Eufaula. Coach McDonald has been serving as Middle School Coach at Lakeside for the past year and has also served as varsity baseball coach.
The Barbour County Intermediate School 5th/6th grade Baby Jaguars avenged an earlier loss to the Barbour County Junior High 7th grade and won 38-30 last Friday at the BCHS gym. Jeziyan Johnson led BCIS with 22 points. Rashaud Rodgers followed with 6 points, Dreshawn Moultry 5 and Craig Christian 1. Jaquavious Jones, Terrance Marshall, Emmett Redding, Landyn Richardson, Eidyen Hale and Jayden Taylor also played well.
Two high school basketball players from Barbour County have been selected to the Alabama Association Sports Writers first team All State Basketball Team. Chloe Helms, a player for The Lakeside Lady Chiefs, was selected for the honor when the writers voted recently.
An Ellaville, GA angler was the winner in the St. Croix Bassmaster Open held at Lake Eufaula.
The Lakeside Girls held their first track meet of the season at Lee Scott Academy. They finished in 2nd place out of 16 teams with 137.5 points! The Lady Chiefs had 6 first-place individual performances and 13 top 3 performances in the meet. The Lakeside boys finished in 12th place.
The AHSAA (Alabama High School Athletic Association) crowned 14 champions for the 202223 basketball season this past Thursday - Saturday at the Legacy Arena at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. Class 1A - 7A boys and girls received either the big blue map trophy for winners or the red map trophy for runner-ups.
Barbour County is home of one of the 12 public shooting ranges across the state operated by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. A shooting range is a great place to practice skills whether a person is an experience target shooter, a hunter or a person just becoming interested in acquiring a first firearm and learning how to short.
March 17 is the deadline for entries to be received for Barbour County’s first Ag Olympics. Competitions will be held at the Yoholo Micco Walking Trail in Eufaula beginning at 5:30 p.m. on March 23.
