The AHSAA (Alabama High School Athletic Association) Basketball Regional Tournaments are underway.at four different locations. The games started last Wednesday with the Northwest at Wallace-Hanceville, Central at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Northeast at Jacksonville State and the South at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery.
The Barbour County High Jaguar boys soccer team has started its second season with two games last week falling to Ariton 4-3 at home Thursday and to Northside Methodist 8-0 on the road Friday. Several players return from last year's team that went 0-3 and they have a new Head Coach Robin Tyra.
The Barbour County High boys and girls basketball teams’ season came to an early end last week in the Class 2A, Area 3 Tournament. The boys fell 68 to 45 to the Abbeville Yellow Jackets on Friday in Ariton and the girls 43 to 38 to the Ariton Lady Purple Cats on Thursday in Abbeville. With the loss, the boys end the season at 4-21. Junior center Lennox Myers led the team with 16 points, Javarius Peterson, Chamarion Brown and Michael Blackmon Jr. all had 8 each and Quay Johnson and Rurtyiaus Ross 3 each. Cameron Petermon had 18 points, Dreshawn Bussey 14 and Ahmad Billins 12 to lead the Yellow Jackets. The girls ended the season at 10-14 with the loss. Junior center Anesia Eutsey led the team with 14 points before fouling out. Brackish Russell followed with 9, Tamia Peterson 7, ZyPrestiny Patterson 4, Enasia Ivory 3 and Meagan Steward 1. Macileigh Bragg had 14 points, Nya Allen 11 and Lizzy Woodfaulk 10 for Ariton.
The Lakeside Varsity Boys lost to Autauga Academy in the AISA playoffs by a score of 54 to 48. Rhodes Bennett had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
The Barbour County High Jaguar Varsity boys basketball team got a big Class 2A, Area 3 win last Tuesday night at the G.W. Long Rebels 68-65 in overtime.They also had a close area loss to the Abbeville Yellow Jackets at home Monday 68-65 and Friday at Abbeville 66-65 and at home Saturday to county rival the Eufaula Tigers 7031.They are now 3-19 overall and 2-3 in area play.
The Lakeside Lady Chiefs (ASWA #7) beat Hooper Academy (ASWA #3) 49 to 42 in overtime Monday night, January 29, at Pitts Gymnasium in Eufaula to get to the ASIA Elite 8. This marks 37 times in Coach Ward’s 39 years of coaching to make the ASIA elite 8 tournament.
Varsity Girls The Lakeside Varsity Lady Chiefs defeated Evangel Christian 52-11 in Eufaula on Thursday, January 11. Chloe Helms led Lakeside with 23 points, 4 steals and 3 assists.
The Barbour County High Jaguar Varsity boys basketball team got a big Class 2A, Area 3 win over the G. W. Long Rebels last Tuesday at home 4939. They made it a clean sweep with the girls winning 44-38 and the Junior Varsity 41-34.
