
BCHS Jaguars compete with G.W. Long
The Barbour County High Jaguar Soccer team put up a valiant effort Thursday at home against the G.W. Long Rebels but fell 3-0 and the Track & Field team competed in the Troy Relays on Friday and did well.

The Barbour County High Jaguar Track & Field team competed at the Enterprise Invitational last Thursday and the Valley Invitational last Friday. They had two individuals to win first place medals in Enterprise.

Rhodes Bennett was selected as one of five AISA All-Star Golfers 2024. Rhodes, a senior at The Lakeside School, represented Alabama in the SE Conference of Independent Schools All-Star Tournament Monday at Grand National RTJ in Opelika. Alabama faced South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia. Joining Rhodes on the AL team are Blake Gayles of Glenwood, Jackson Scott of Fort Dale, Cam Arwood of Lee Scott, and Dalton Bracknall of Patrician.
Al Gilmore, son of Lyvon Gilmore and the late Frances Cooper Gilmore, of Clayton has been named the next Athletic Director and head football coach for Geneva County. He was hired by the Geneva County Board of Education to replace Josh Thompson who was head football coach for the Bulldogs.
Auburn’s men’s basketball team clinched the Southeastern Conference Tournament Sunday and are now headed to the NCAA Tournament to face Yale Friday afternoon. The Tigers controlled the court in the second half of the game against Florida and claimed the SEC Championship title with an 86-67 win in Nashville.
The Barbour County High School Jaguar Soccer team fell to the Houston Academy Raiders last Tuesday 12-1 at home and are now 0-7 on the season. The Raiders improved to 10-4 on the season.
White Oak Creek and Cotton Hill Campgrounds, two popular camping destinations on Lake Walter F. George (Lake Eufaula) will temporarily open. The dates set for public use began on March 15 and reservations will continue through July 7.
The Lakeside Chief’s first Track Meet of the season was held at Escambia Academy on Wednesday, March 6th. The Lady Chiefs track team won second place.
The Barbour County High School Jaguar Track & Field team is busy preparing for the upcoming season. They will compete in their first meet on Friday at the Troy Invitational Meet 2. New head coach this year is Derrick Levette, who replaces Daniel Powell, and assistant coach is Jim Bush. Some of this year's participants are: shot put/disc- Anesia Eutsey, Jayden Robinson, Tiana Boykins, TyLasha Hamilton, Javon Devose and Zonquavious Taylor and javelin- James George.
