For those who have kept up with the Summer Olympics in Paris, it makes all of us proud when we hear the National Anthem being played for an American medallist. In spite of rain that poured during the opening ceremonies, this did not stop the parade of boats filled with participants from all countries from being chipper as they floated down the Seine River.

Thoughts on the real problem of election integrity

Presidential elections are often decided by a handful of battleground states, marginalizing voters in states considered safe for one party. For instance, a Democrat’s vote in Alabama or a Republican’s vote in California is often seen as inconsequential. When elected officials rail against unfair voting practices, they seem to ignore the terrible flaw that was written into the nation’s Constitution that compromises the principle of “one person, one vote.”

or 'Ok-rey?' My Daddy always laughed and said that you could tell a great deal about a person, especially where they came from, based on how they pronounced 'okra.' 'Is it pronounced 'okrah' or 'ok-rey?'' he would joke. 'I always just call it 'good!'' Now, my feelings on okra are a bit more complicated … Since I was a small girl, okra has always been on my family's supper table, most often in the hot summer months when the plants thrive.

Council upholds responsibilities

Members of the Clayton City Council took a bold move when they unanimously voted to request financials of the city and minutes for the past four years at a special called meeting on July 18.
