Record snowfall blankets county
and schools remained closed the remainder of the week. With freezing temperatures lingering, roads remained hazardous to drive after they became slushy and “black ice” presented a danger. Life was virtually brought to a standstill with nobody venturing far from home. From the Deep South to the beaches along the Gulf, snow dumped accumulations from five to eight inches creating a spectacular landscape last week. Patches of snow remained in spots through the weekend while slush remained on the roads.


Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Snow with accumulations of two to three inches with isolated higher amounts in Barbour County moved in Tuesday lasting into early Wednesday. Winter Storm Enzo was declared as historic it affected areas rarely having accumulations of snow from the southern portions of Texas through southern Alabama and the Florida beaches forcing people to make preparations for the severe weather conditions.

Commission increases landfill fee
Tipping Fees were increased from $38.00 to $45.00 at the Barbour County Landfill by Barbour County Commissioners during their regular scheduled meeting held Monday morning at the Eufaula Courthouse.
