BCHS to get a new head football coach

Robin Tyra was hired at Barbour County back in May as head football coach, athletic director, head soccer coach and head track coach, as well as a Physical Education teacher. He has not coached football for the last two years with the exception of two Barbour County games in need when head coach Derrick Levett was not able to coach because of injuries sustained in a car accident. Tyra will also serve as the Abbeville athletic director and a physical education teacher.

‘And one to grow on!’

My dear, 'little' daughter turned ten years old this week. Amid the blinding crush of activity that surrounds this time of the year - as my spouse and I meticulously planned Rebekah's birthday party with the kind of dedication reserved for a Queen's butler - I considered writing a column about quaint birthday traditions of the past. However, as my daughter opened her birthday presents and cut into her fat chocolate cake - as I glanced around at all the party guests, the party favors, the lavish party decorations - I was struck with a shocking revelation … Does Rebekah view the birthday traditions from my childhood as antiquated? Archaic even?

Barbour County High School JROTC achieves Program Accreditations

Well overdue recognition, back on April 22, 2025, a 3 year process was completed, though the program was re-established back in 2018. It operated non-cost shared up until April 2022. We recognized it as a cost shared program, which means the Army command picks up half the bill to keep the JROTC program running. This was our very first JROTC Program Accreditation- Evaluation/Inspection.
