
Students to attend Alfa Conference
Two Lakeside tenth graders have been selected for the ALFA Youth Leadership Conference in November. Sam Strickland and Maggie Moore were selected from a pool of over 200 students across the state.

Alabama, in bygone days, would have a slew of what I called “run for the fun of it” candidates.
The Lakeside School cross country teams closed out their season Tuesday, October 8, at the AISA State Cross Country Championships held at Kiesel Park in Auburn. The meet featured runners from across the state competing on a challenging course.

Senior Premier Exhibitor winners in the Youth Swine Show at the Alabama National Fair on October 12 in Montgomery from left, are Alyx Johnson of Randolph County, first place; Molly Cox of Barbour County, second place; Dalton Fink of Calhoun County, third place; Travis Smith of St. Clair County, fourth place; and Sara Kate Stitcher of Randolph County, fifth place. The senior division is for students 16-19 years of age. The Premier Exhibitor competition tests students’ livestock knowledge, evaluation skills and showmanship ability. Alabama Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance sponsored youth livestock activities at the fair

SELECTED TO SERVE ON STATE COMMITTEE - Victoria Smith, Eufaula Elementary School Art Teacher, shown seated, has been selected to serve on the Alabama State Department of Education State Textbook Committee for Arts Education. She played a major role in selecting curriculum and supplemental materials to be adopted by the Alabama State Board of Education for all schools across the state. Aurora Evans Ritter lived an adventurous life dominated with determination and the will to persevere through difficult times. Yet, she never forgot her family and her deep roots in rural Barbour County.

Mitzi Ketchum Clayton, Barbour County Extension Agent Director, completed the Government & Economic Development Institute (GEDI) at Auburn University’s Intensive Economic Development Training Course. The course was held September 8-11 at The Dixon Conference Center at Auburn University.
