Changes coming with new 483 area code
Simply dialing seven numbers to make a telephone call will result in an uncompleted call beginning in January. With the addition of a new area code, 483, those who have a 334 area code will have to use 10 digits, rather than the seven currently being used.
Big changes coming for CDL holders
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Driver License Division is announcing two major updates impacting Commercial Driver License (CDL) holders and applicants across the state. These changes, aligned with federal guidelines and safety priorities, are aimed at improving road safety and streamlining certification processes.
County deputies respond to incidents
As a Barbour County deputy was on patrol in Eufaula, he noticed a vehicle having a head light out on the driver’s side. The driver was traveling north on South Randolph Avenue.

Meetings to be held on courthouse repairs
Barbour County Commissioners are planning two Community Meetings next Thursday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Barbour County Courthouse in Clayton. The purpose of the meetings are to get public input on needed renovations at the Barbour County Courthouse in Clayton.
Clayton police make two separate arrests
Clayton police made two separate arrests during the holiday weekend. Officer Joseph Johnston arrested a 48-year-old female at 176 North Midway Street in Clayton (Sunoco) on charges of public intoxication on July 3.

First July 4th as American citizen
As family and friends gather Friday to celebrate the 4th of July, a Clayton resident will be waving the American flag a little higher as she celebrates America’s birthday. This is the first time Kelly Levy will be celebrating the 4th as a citizen of the United States.

Dumpsters help alleviate overflow garbage
Barbour County Commissioners voted to place garbage dumpsters throughout rural Barbour County to help alleviate the household garbage situation. The vote was taken during a special called meeting Thursday afternoon at the Eufaula Courthouse. Dumpsters were placed last Thursday afternoon and Friday morning at Springhill Volunteer Fire Department, Texasville Volunteer Fire Department, Blue Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Elamville Volunteer Department, Bakerhill Community Center and Street Memorial Church (property owned by Greens Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.) Another location behind the old Kelly’s Fireworks store, located on 431, is being looked at for a possible placement. Since this location is private property, the landowner will have to sign an agreement releasing the county from any liability that may occur. All other locations are on public property.
Slate set for county’s municipal elections to be held August 26
A complete list of candidates who qualified to seek election in Clayton’s municipal election was not released from city hall until Thursday afternoon. The deadline to qualify was Tuesday, June 24 at 5 p.m.
