Veterans to be honored this weekend

An article in this week’s edition of The Record includes some of the events in which we have been notified that will be held to observe Veterans Day. A little history on the origin of the observance of Veterans Day tells us that World War I, also known as “The Great War,” officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France.

Man surrenders to K-9 Jack’s threat

After a high speed chase in Eufaula last week, a suspect surrendered when he was warned that K-9 Jack was deployed and would bite. Trey Devonte Douglas, a resident of 65 Hill Ricks Road in Eufaula, jumped on his vehicle after the chase led deputies through several streets in Eufaula and subsequently causing Douglas’ vehicle to spin out of control and into a yard.

Novak receives Golden Eagle Award

This year’s recipient of the Alabama Florida Council’s Boy Scout Golden Eagle Award is Ken Novak, former vice president of Alabama Power Company’s Southeast Division based in Eufaula. The presentation was made during a fundraising dinner for the council held last week at the home of Mr.

We’ve gone from summer clothes to our warmer sweaters this week with cooler temperatures coming our way. It’s that time of year for cooler weather but the mild temperatures have been so pleasant. Also, this time of year the Confederate roses are in full bloom and seem to be prettier this year. The blooms only last one day but the trees seem to always be plentifully with their pink and white blooms.

75 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 29, 1948 The Clayton Tigers suffered their second defeat of the season Friday night when they were humbled by a strong Abbeville eleven on the local field by a 55-7 score. The Tigers only score was made by Joe Warr with James Daniel making the extra point.
