Veterans Day programs planned in county

Several opportunities are planned in Barbour County for the public to observe Veterans Day. Members of Clayton’s Camellia Garden Club organize an observance at the Memorial Monument at the intersection of South Midway Street and Louisville Street during which all veterans who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces are honored with recognitions.

Couple killed in multi-vehicle crash

A bizarre multi-vehicle crash in Pike County Tuesday, October 31 involved a Clayton man and the son and daughter-inlaw of Assistant Clayton Police Chief Edward Hardy. Edward Olanda Hardy, II, 22, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and his wife, Chloe Nichol Hardy, 19, who was driving, were killed in the crash that involved multiple vehicles.

Veterans to be honored this weekend

An article in this week’s edition of The Record includes some of the events in which we have been notified that will be held to observe Veterans Day. A little history on the origin of the observance of Veterans Day tells us that World War I, also known as “The Great War,” officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France.
