Barbour County Sheriff Tyrone Smith recently held promotional ceremonies for nine officers with the department. Sheriff Smith said, “We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that these officers have shown each and every day.” He explained that the promotion process started in September and ended in November of this year.
A small tornado that came through Barbour County early Sunday morning did not cause any damage, according to EMA Director David Logan. He reported that the EF-0 tornado was eight miles long and mostly in neighboring Henry County where only minor damage occurred.
Tragedy struck a family in Blue Springs Friday morning when they were away from home. Firefighters from several volunteer units in Barbour County were dispatched to a house fire at 2515 Highway 10 about 7:30 a.m.
Appalachian musician and storyteller Josh Goforth will be at the Chili County Christmas event at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge on December 8th and 9th. The chili supper and concert will begin at 6:30 each night.
Branch 5075 of the Barbour County NAACP hosted a program on Heart Health this past Tuesday, November 28th at the Eufaula Carnegie Library. Regina Smith, RN, and Louise Conner, RN, cochairs of the branch’s health committee, spoke about myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure.
The Crimson Tide survived another thrilling game that went down to the wire Saturday when they claimed the SEC Championship Title. They defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 27-24, the exact same score that ended with a Tide victory over the Auburn Tigers a week earlier. The victory earned the Tide a place in the playoffs when they will oppose Michigan in the Rose Bowl on Monday, January 1.
