75 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 17, 1948 Joe Caraway, Thomas Dorman, Billy Barefield, Billy Spires, Steve Godwin, Walter Warr, Don Bush, John Martin, Walter Benton, James Brown and Coles Nix have all left Clayton this week for API in Auburn to begin their studies this Fall. Leaving to attend the University of Alabama was Raymond Dominey.

75 YEARS AGO AUGUST 27, 1948 Louis Brown, 28 years of age, entered on duty with the Soil Conservation Service in Barbour County as assistant to Mr. James B.

75 YEARS AGO AUGUST 13, 1948 Dewey Clyde Ammons, Louisville 4-H Club member, will be captain of the Barbour County All-Stars when they play the Clio 4-H Club, who are the county champions, in the 2nd Barbour County All-Star game which is to be played in Clayton on Wednesday night, August 25. He is considered one of the best young baseball players in this section of the State.

75 YEARS AGO AUGUST 6, 1948 Mr. Curtis Eiland has accepted the position as vocational agriculture teacher at the Blue Springs School.

75 YEARS AGO JULY 16, 1948 The Clayton Junior 4-H Club baseball team defeated the Clio Junior Club 5-4 Friday, July 16, in a game played in Louisville at the community picnic. The score was close throughout the game.

75 YEARS AGO JUNE 4, 1948 Sarah Clayton’s calf won first place in the middle- weight Shorthorn class at the recent Barbour County Fat Stock Show and Sale held in Eufaula. She and her sister, Mary, are active members of the Clayton 4-H Clubs and are active in all phases of club work.

75 YEARS AGO MARCH 29, 1948 Jack Teal has opened a “White and Green Front Grocery Store” on North Midway Street. The business is in a recently completed new building on the Teal property and has plenty of parking space in front of it.

75 YEARS AGO MARSH 5, 1948 The District FFA Speaking Contest was held in Clayton on February 18. Three of the four FFA Chapters in Barbour County competed in this contest, namely Blue Springs, Clio and Clayton.

75 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 27, 1948 The Louisville PTA held their annual observance of “Founder’s Day” with a program under the direction of Mrs. C.A.
