Fireflies to open Thursday
The Red Door Theatre’s production, Fireflies, opens Thursday night and will be returning to the theatre in downtown Union Springs. Performances will be held Thursday through Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Helen Crossley was given a trip to Montgomery by her nieces to celebrate her 75th birthday on March 26th and 27th. The birthday activities began Saturday morning when her nephew, James H. Gray, Jr. picked Helen up from her home in Louisville and chauffeured her to Montgomery where she would be staying in an Airbnb. Upon arrival, a large yard sign graced the front of the house that read – “Happy 75th Birthday. The house was also decorated with balloons, happy birthday signs and a beautiful tiered cake.
The Clayton United Methodist Church and Rocky Mount United Methodist Church will conduct special services during Holy Week and Easter weekend. On Maundy Thursday, April 14, at 6:00 pm, the Clayton United Methodist Church will conduct a service of the Lord’s Supper and preparation for Easter Sunday.
Barbour Countians, along with all Alabamians age 60 and over, could receive $30 to use for fresh fruits and vegetables. A federally funded program will provide eligible senior citizens with benefit cards to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from Alabama farmers markets.

Eufaula Cub Scouts and members of First Presbyterian pause for a much needed rest from cleaning up the Jewish section of Fairview Cemetery in Eufaula. This group recently spent hours sprucing up and cleaning up this neglected section of the cemetery.
The Annual Church Secretaries Luncheon was held Tuesday, March 22 at the Barbour Baptist Association Office in Clayton. The Association honors the church secretaries each year for all the work they do for their churches each year. When faced with trying times, Alabama youth remain resilient! Alabama 4-H and its members continue to make positive impacts all over the state. With more than 71,000 enrolled members, 4-H stands out as one of the state’s premier organizations for youth development.
The upcoming production of the Red Door Theatre is returning to the former Episcopal Church in downtown Union Springs. This is the first time performances have been held at their venue since prior to COVID when they were held at Dreamfield Farms to allow for safety guidelines during the pandemic.
HONORED AT RECEPTION - Justin Dennis, a student at Eufaula High School, was among those honored at a reception and awards ceremony last Wednesday, March 9, in Montgomery. Justin placed 3rd in the State Superintendent’s Visual Arts Show for 11th-12th grades in Category 1. Several family members including his mother, Shemika Jett, and his grandmother, Emma Jett, attended the ceremony. Others attending the event with Justin were his art teacher, Catherine Edwards, Eufaula City Schools Superintendent, Joey Brannan, and Public Relations/Communications Specialist, Mitzi Clayton.
