LEADERSHIP BARBOUR CLASS XV

LEADERSHIP BARBOUR GRADUATION - Leadership Barbour Class XV held its graduation at the Eufaula Country Club on Thursday, April 21. Caty Houston Richardson, guest speaker, gave an uplifting and inspiring talk on leadership and volunteerism. Class members and guests enjoyed dinner followed by the presentation of certificates. This class is the first class since 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. It is historic in that this class began last July following strict COVID protocol to eventually getting to be able to go without masks during the graduation event. This class had one of the best attendance in Leadership Barbour history. Former Alabama High School Coach Willie Spears publishes his 12th book

Author and motivational speaker Willie Spears captures the heart of African American Boys in his latest book, "David's Depression: A Tale of Mental Illness." Spears was the head football coach at Carver Montgomery, Bullock County, and Valiant Cross. While at Carver, Spears coached Jeffery Reed, who was shot and killed at Bama Lanes in Montgomery this past January. Spears learned of another former player who passed away of an apparent suicide during the same week. Spears believes these bad decisions resulting in death may stem from mental illness.

EUFAULA PARKS& RECREATION ACTION MARINE KIDS’ FISHING RODEO The Eufaula Parks& Recreation Department will host the Action Marine Kid’s Fishing Rodeo at Old Creek Town Park on July 19th. The goal is to support area youth, including those with special needs, with gifts of fun, fishing and a sense of community.

Helen Crossley

Helen Crossley celebrated her 75th birthday on March 26th and 27th in Montgomery. The birthday celebration was spearheaded by Helen’s oldest niece, Jamelia Hayes of Calera, Alabama. The other supporting cast were Jameice Gray and Angela Crossley of Montgomery; Valarie Brittman, Iris Gray and Brittany Gray of Atlanta. The only missing niece was Cavetta Green of Alexandria, Virginia.

COURTHOUSE CLOSINGS The Barbour County Courthouse in Clayton and Eufaula will be closed on Monday, April 25, in observance of Confederate Memorial Day. If anyone has business to tend to in either courthouse, please plan accordingly! VIRTUAL COMMUNITY COVID CHECK-IN A meeting will be held virtually April 27 at 12:00 p.m.

SUPPORT HUMANE SOCIETY

Members of The Lakeside School Student Government Association (SGA) partnered with Leadership Barbour to help fill-up Easter baskets for the dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Barbour County. The Humane Society supports and helps ensure that animals are kept safe.
