Wallace Community College-Dothan’s (WCCD) Sparks Campus Site Coordinator Andrea Evans recently received the most outstanding Staff Person of the Year at the 2022 Alabama Adult Education Awards Luncheon held at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa Convention Center.
The Red Door Theatre in Union Springs will present Honky Tonk Laundry July 21-24. A spokesman for the theatre describes the play stating, “When Lana Mae Hopkins, owner and proprietress of the Wishy Washy Washateria, hires Katie to help out in the laundromat, they soon find themselves up to their elbows in soap, suds and cheatin’ hearts.
The term “staycation” is more relevant today than in the past. Family fun in the backyard gathered around the picnic table, cooking outside, and other activities become more appealing when we consider the price of filling up the car with gas.
Queens who will be competing in the Little Miss National Peanut Festival competitions and those vying for the title of Miss National Peanut Festival queen gathered at Shorter Mansion in Eufaula Saturday morning for a tea hosted by queens representing Barbour County and the City of Eufaula. The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) is encouraging the public to help protect older family members, friends, neighbors and others from elder abuse by learning to recognize the warning signs of mistreatment.
LEARNING TO EXPRESS FEELINGS - Students at Barbour County High School are shown expressing themselves through writing about their feelings on the sidewalks of the school. Dorette Thornton, Mental Health Services Coordinator, Barbour County School District, led the “Chalk It Up” project to emphasize the importance of getting your feelings out instead of holding them inside. She stated, “I have learned that many of us have trouble expressing how we feel when we’re down and out, but writing is a coping mechanism that allows us to express ourselves without speaking at all.” With May be Mental Health Awareness month, Ms. Thornton wanted students to understand the issue.

The 35th Blue Springs Reunion was held May 21 at Blue Springs State Park. Thirty six classmates attended the reunion.
