Clio Fall Festival

Who has the most fun at a fall festival? Is it the children - the parents/grandparents - the planners and workers? The facial expressions and bustling excitement of the attendees at Saturday night’s event at David Grice Park in Clio seemed to be a witness that all were caught up in the activities. The youngsters were fliting from activity to activity often chewing on a treat earned at a previous station. The adults were beaming as they made mental and or photo memories of their cherished one enjoying an activity. The workers were happy, and yes relieved, to see their hours of planning and setting up stations rewarded as visitors of all ages found activities to enjoy. Using fall as the theme, the event was publicized as “an old fashion festival for all ages.” Entertainment was to include games, treats, food, and a movie. That’s what the visitors got. Numerous activity stations were set up with various levels of challenge. The fall theme was artistically incorporated to games more popular in the past. Games like hop scotch, hula hooping, balloon popping, cake walking, bingo, twister, sack racing, stick horse riding, stilt walking, item tossing, “lucky duck” picking, bull roping, donut bobbing, sliding from a humongous bale of hay, and pie throwing were enjoyed. There was putt-putt golf. A picture frame and photo props were available for those who wanted to make a fall themed picture. Treats were abundant for game participation and the kitchen was stocked with hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks and other offerings. The biggest attractions for the event appeared to be the train ride around the park and the pie toss. This year’s festival organizers are to be commended for their efforts. As we strive to return to life more like that we had before COVID-19, we need to work together to boost our community. Is there any season better than fall? The air is crisp, the leaves are changing and the smell of pumpkin spice is everywhere! This season brings plenty of fun fall activities for all to enjoy.
