Local students earn degree from U of A
Some 1,257 degrees were awarded during The University of Alabama's summer 2023 commencement at Coleman Coliseum. A recent economic analysis found that a degree from The University of Alabama can pay more over time than investments in U.S. stock market indexes. The University provides numerous opportunities for service and growth through its educational, social and cultural experiences.
Back-to School edition to be published soon

Rising seniors experience America’s history
Two rising seniors from Barbour County High School and one from Ariton High School got to experience America’s history up close this summer as they represented Pea River Electric Cooperative on the National Rural Electric Association’s Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
EHS seniors attend Boys and Girls State
Rising Eufaula High School seniors Trinity Gant and Derrick Williams recently attended American Legion Alabama Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State at Troy University. Trinity stated, 'We participated in mock government simulations that gave us a sense of what we would do if we pursued a career in legislation! This included debating bills and running for actual positions in government.

EHS FFA students attend State Convention
Eufaula High School FFA members competed and accepted awards at the 95th Alabama State FFA Convention recently in Montgomery. Highlights include: (1) Bradley Spurlock earned 2nd Place in Safe Tractor Driving. (2) FFA String Band members Ryder Robinson, Ellie Trammell, Luke Padgett, Matthew Lindsey and Taylor Washington earned a hard-fought 4th Place banner. (3) A Gold (the highest) ranking National Chapter Award. (4) A Top 5 Chapter in the state award. (5) Luke Padgett was awarded a National FFA Scholarship. (6) Sam Miller, State Vice President, helped conduct the convention activities and delivered a motivational retirement address to the 1300 attendees. Additionally, eight chapter members earned and were awarded Alabama FFA State Degrees. Some requirements include reciting the FFA Creed, delivering a 6-minute speech, demonstrating parliamentary procedure, a minimum of 25 hours of community service, 300 hours worked or $1000 earned in ag work experiences, and participating in at least five activities above the chapter level. The eight members earning Alabama FFA State Degrees are Matthew Lindsey, Josh Holmes, Bryce Hinton, Hunter Gainvors, Haden Caldwell, Carson Cox, Brayden Price and Isaiah Meyers.

Students place in the Alabama Wildlife Habitat Education Program
The 2023 Alabama Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) contest was held June 23 and 24 at Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) in Fairhope. In a competition of wildlife knowledge, many youth teams representing multiple counties were scored by judges and professionals. Alabama’s victor was the Barbour County senior division team.

BCHS seniors awarded Britt scholarships
The F.C. Britt Scholarship Fund was delighted to award scholarships for continued education to five deserving Seniors during the Barbour County High School Class of 2023 Awards Day! Mrs.
BCHS 7th grade & BCIS 5th/6th grade meet for a basketball game
The Barbour County Junior High 7th grade boys basketball team and the Barbour County Intermediate 5th/6th grade team met on Friday, February 17, at the BCIS gym for a lot of fun. The BCJH boys came out on top with a 34-16 win.
