Schools adjusting as pandemic continues

School administrators in Barbour County have been grappling with decisions that are in the best interest of their school districts with COVID numbers affecting students and teachers. While every effort is being made to keep students in the classrooms, the health and safety of students and others in the schools are of utmost priority.

SNOW FLURRIES

Snow flurries were spotted in Barbour County on Sunday, but no accumulation was reported in the county. While many were excited to see the first snow in a few years, it did not last long and presented no opportunity to make a snowman! It’s amazing how a few flakes of snow can get our fascination!

ENGULFED

ENGULFED - Last Tuesday night, January 11, Clayton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Jennings Street in Clayton with visible flames. Louisville, Bakerhill and Clio volunteer departments were also on scene to assist Clayton with containing the fire. The fire is believed to have started from a space heater that had been left on. The house trailer was not able to be saved, and all contents in the house were lost. Photo by Laney Gulledge

Year-end Review 2021

JULY - Judge Burt Smithart, Presiding Judge of Barbour and Bullock Counties, was sworn in as the newly elected President of the Alabama Association of Circuit Judges (AACJ); Texasville United Methodist Church celebrated its 126th anniversary; Mrs. Bertha Daniels Mulkey of Clayton celebrated her 101st birthday; Anderson Baptist Church in Clio held its centennial celebration; Barbour County Schools announced they will provide all back-to-school supplies for all students in the upcoming school year; municipal elections in Clayton were extended one year; Louisville Fire and Rescue dedicated their new fire truck to the memory of longtime chief Lance Clark; and a spike in COVID- 19 cases caused Barbour County to be “Very High Risk.”

What a game Monday night when two SEC teams, Alabama and Georgia, competed for the National Championship title! The game was close through three quarters, but the Bulldogs pulled off a 33-18 victory over the injured Tide. A picksix by the Bulldogs in the final minute clinched the title.
