Members of the Louisville Cemetery Committee were relieved to find out that damages to the cemetery will be covered in an insurance settlement. Damages were caused when a vehicle plowed through the wrought iron fence and proceeded over several tombstones before coming to a rest.
Eufaula’s courthouse will be closed for a week this month to allow county officials to relocate to the newly renovated courthouse. County Commissioners held their last regular meeting in the current courthouse Tuesday where plans were made to move operations to the new facility on Barbour Street.
Intruders were probably shocked when they opened the blue money bags they took from a Louisville business and found they were empty! The bags were taken on January 3 from the Iron Mule located at 209 Peanut House Road.
Barbour County Sheriff Tyrone Smith will continue to be the first African American sheriff in the county as he will serve another four-year term. That’s because he drew no opposition in his re-election bid for the county’s chief law enforcement officer, which is a precedent within itself for the office in recent history.
The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals will face each other in Super Bowl LVI Sunday at 5:30 CT at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. The Rams will have their own cheering section for viewers on television who will be pulling for Eufaula’s Les Snead’s team. We all join his mother, Pam Snead of Eufaula, in the excitement to see the accomplishments of the Rams’ general manager.

Two new members of the Barbour County Board of Registrars were administered the oath of office last week. Probate Judge Susan Shorter administered the oath to Melissa Gilmore Yadlosky and Deborah Shaw, both residents of Eufaula.
Sen. Billy Beasley drew an opponent in the final minutes of qualifying Friday afternoon in his re-election bid to the Senate 28 seat in the Alabama Legislature on the Democratic ticket.
Sophie Seaborn won first place in the junior high biological division of the 2022 AISA State Science Fair with her experiment “Does peppermint alter brain function?” The judging took place on January 28 at Huntingdon College in Montgomery. Sophie is an eighth grader at The Lakeside School and is the daughter of Shane and Anna Seaborn of Clayton. She won first place in the district science fair on January 20 to advance to the state competition. Other district winners from Lakeside include Avery Sellers, 3rd in high school biological division; Caroline McAliley, 3rd in elementary physical division; and Rooty Ward, 2nd in junior high physical division.
