Barbour County Crime Reports

Barbour County deputies remain vigilant across the county in an attempt to keep citizens safe. On Tuesday, April 19, Deputy Lynnmarie Martin responded to a church located at 45 Dry Creek in Midway in reference to the theft of an air conditioning unit from a church.

AGRICULTURE DAY

The Barbour County Young Farmers and Barbour County Extension office held the tenth Annual AG Day for the third-grade classrooms throughout the county, March 25. Students and volunteers attended the event at Eufaula Elementary School. The students rotated around six stations each focusing on an agriculture commodity.

Appointment of committee encouraged

Barbour County commissioners were encouraged to create a Broadband Committee in order to secure funds to expand services in the county at last week’s commission meeting. David Ficken, vice president of Strategic Growth with Point Broadband in Opelika, addressed commissioners explaining a project that would expand broadband connectivity from Clayton to Clio along Highway 51.

Redistricting hearing to be held

A Public Hearing will be held prior to the May 10 meeting of the Barbour County Commission. The hearing will allow the public to view proposed changes to the commission’s seven district boundaries. The new district lines will be used when commission elections will be held during the 2024 Primary Election.

Eufaula City Council votes to approve property annexation

The City of Eufaula is in the process of annexing acreage located on Highway 131 owned by Mineral Manufacturing Corporation into the city limits. According to a letter from Ryan Reed, vice president of the corporation,to the Eufaula Planning Commission, 6.69 +/- acres were requested to be annexed into the city for the “installation of a new natural gas meter to be served by Southeast Alabama Gas District.” The property is located at the intersection of Harbison Walker Road and Highway 131.

We received reports of rain accumulations from 5 to 6 inches over the weekend bringing cooler weather. It was not a good weekend for the Easter Bunny and children having fun outside searching for Easter eggs. Meaningful Holy Week services were held in spite of the weather, all of which relive the crucifixion and the resurrected Christ.
