Group addresses crime problem

A rise in gun violence and crime in Barbour County has prompted members of the Barbour County NAACP, Branch #5075, to take action and offer help to combat this serious problem. A meeting was held last week in Clayton during which judicial and legislative representatives attended to help address these concerns.

DEPUTY GRADUATES

Barbour County Sheriff Tyrone Smith presents Deputy Jesus Sanchez with a certificate recognizing him on his recent graduation from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Academy. Sheriff Smith said, “Deputy Sanchez has worked extremely hard the last four months while training and he’s ready to serve the Barbour County community.”

Former Lakeside coach dies

Former players, students, friends and family gathered in Eufaula Sunday afternoon, May 1 to pay their respects to legendary coach Johnny Shoemaker. He is a former basketball and football coach at The Lakeside School. Services were held at First United Methodist Church.
