A search warrant was executed last Thursday morning, July 21 by the Eufaula Police Department in the investigation of the murder of 18-year-old Quantvious Howard of Eufaula on July 16. Personnel with the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations assisted Eufaula Police Department officers with the execution of the search warrant but nothing of evidentiary value was recovered.
The Bluff City Inn property in Eufaula has been conveyed to the Eufaula Downtown Redevelopment Authority in an ordinance passed by the Eufaula City Council Monday night. The ordinance had its second reading during the regular council meeting.
Members of the Barbour County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd during a special called meeting Tuesday night. Dr. Byrd, who has filled the position for nearly two years, will assume the superintendent’s position with the Selma City School System on August 1.
The chairman of the Alabama Republican Party has made the suggestion that voters in the state register under a political party. He contends that those who register under the two major parties in the state, Republican an Democratic, could only vote in their respective party elections.

An 18-year-old Eufaula man was murdered in a late Saturday night shooting and another victim was wounded. Quantavious Howard sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body in the shooting that occurred about 11:28.
The Clio City Council was scheduled to meet Wednesday night after this week’s deadline of The Record to name a replacement for the mayor in addition to declaring a seat on the council vacant. After Mayor Kenneth Johnson resigned as mayor effective June 30 for health reasons, Councillor Lorenza Wilson resigned from the council on July 11, also for health reasons.
This year’s Wiregrass United Way campaign will begin with a fun kickoff complete with a service project. Volunteers from throughout the six county region will gather on Tuesday, August 2 at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. The program will start at 8:30 a.m.
Farmers in a portion of Barbour County can get help with the problem of wild hogs through the Feral Swine Control Program, funded through the 2018 Federal Farm Bill. Other counties covered under this bill are Houston, Henry, Coffee, Dale and Geneva.
