Superintendent accepts new position

Members of the Barbour County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd during a special called meeting Tuesday night. Dr. Byrd, who has filled the position for nearly two years, will assume the superintendent’s position with the Selma City School System on August 1.

As much as I'm loath to admit it, I don't have a green thumb. Oh, I do all right, I suppose. Every spring, the week after Good Friday, I plant a vegetable garden. And, every year, the same thing happens.

Clio council to meet to fill vacant seats

The Clio City Council was scheduled to meet Wednesday night after this week’s deadline of The Record to name a replacement for the mayor in addition to declaring a seat on the council vacant. After Mayor Kenneth Johnson resigned as mayor effective June 30 for health reasons, Councillor Lorenza Wilson resigned from the council on July 11, also for health reasons.

United Way kicks-off campaign

This year’s Wiregrass United Way campaign will begin with a fun kickoff complete with a service project. Volunteers from throughout the six county region will gather on Tuesday, August 2 at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. The program will start at 8:30 a.m.
