Alligator hunting season has opened for the Southeast zones

Alligator hunting season started in the Southeast Zone of Alabama at sunset last Saturday, August 13 and will continue through Monday, September 5. This zone consists of private and public waters in Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Russell counties (excluding Alabama state waters in Walter F. George Reservoir (Lake Eufaula) and in navigable tributaries). Lake Eufaula Zone which consists of Alabama state public waters in the Walter F. George Reservoir (Lake Eufaula) and it’s navigable tributaries, south of Hwy 208, Omaha Bridge, (excluding Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge), will open at sunset Friday, August 19, and continues until sunrise on October 3.

Meeting rules to be reviewed

It’s hard to imagine that schools are opening for a new term and students are back in the classrooms. It seems as if they start so early but scheduling mandates the early school year beginnings. We published our first “Back to School” special edition last week which had a lot of beneficial information. We appreciate advertisers, school personnel and others working with us to make it happen. ****** Get outside at night to watch the most popular meteor shower, known as the Perseids. These meteor showers are active between July and September but will peak on August 13. The full moon may hinder their appearances but maybe we can catch a few !
