Alabama Power is offering customers up to $200 reimbursement for those who purchase a smart thermostat. Smart thermostats regulate heating and cooling according to the homeowners schedule and allow customers to remotely control the temperature from anywhere.
An agreement has been reached to purchase additional property adjacent to the Bluff City Inn, the historic hotel in downtown Eufaula, where plans are to renovate the structure into a $15 million Marriott brand to include 85 rooms and a food and beverage outlet.

BY REBECCA BEASLEY Barbour County Engineer Matt Murphy will be leaving the position he has held for nearly 20 years this month. Murphy, who has been serving as the county’s engineer with the Barbour County Commission, will be accepting the position as Dale County engineer effective September 19.
A correctional officer at Easterling Correction, located at Clio, died over the past weekend, according to a news release by the Alabama Department of Corrections. Rickey Cooper, age 47, of Abbeville collapsed during his shift on Saturday, August 27.
