BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The Barbour County Branch 5075 of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting a couple of events during Black History Month. A Gosepl Sing and Prayer Fest is planned for Sunday, February 26, to celebrate Black History Month in Barbour County.

Appeals Court affirms convictions in Barbour County murder case

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the convictions of Reginald Dejuan Coley, age 51, of Eufaula. Coley was convicted in Barbour County Circuit Court on February 11, 2022 for the murder of Michael Marshall and unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree assault, and unlawful possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Sheriffs to receive lost revenue funds

Sheriffs throughout the state will be receiving funds to help compensate from revenue they are losing by no longer selling pistol permits. Under the Local Government Pistol Permit Revenue Loss Fund, the amount each sheriff will receive is based on collections that the Sheriff’s Departments generated in pistol permit fees in 2022.

Barbour County Sheriff Tyrone Smith and his speciala response team are training for the unexpected and hopefully incidents they never have to face. In addition to their normal responsibilities which are numerous, they are training for an active shooter emergency in all scenarios.

75 YEARS AGO JANUARY 9, 1948 Billy Glover, 4-H member of the Bakerhill Club,was selected to attend the 4-H Tractor Clinic held in Troy January 6-7. The object of the clinic was to train leaders, both farmers and farm boys, in taking better care of tractors.
