A traffic stop for failure to move over law resulted in the arrest of a Clayton man on May 13. A deputy with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department made the traffic stop on Highway 51 near Boyd Drive in Clayton on a red 2001 Honda Accord.
Barbour County commissioners heard several concerns related to the courthouse in Eufaula at their regular meeting held last week. Commissioner Stan Adams called on Eufaula Mayor Jack Tibbs, who was present at the meeting, to give an update on the possible acquisition of the property located next to the courthouse.

Barbour County commissioners approved a resolution to appropriate a total of $550,000 to assist the financially strapped hospital in Eufaula. In a meeting that lasted less than 30 minutes held in Clayton Tuesday, commissioners unanimously approved the appropriation to the Health Care Authority of the City of Eufaula “to support the continued availability of hospital services and support economic development.” The funds, to be taken from the commission’s America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, are specified for Medical Center Barbour’s operational purposes.
“It’s official. I am now approved as an Elder in the Global Methodist Church effective today,” the Rev. Dr. Larry Teasley, pastor of Clayton and Rocky Mount Methodist churches, wrote in his blog on Monday.
A local bill authorizing an increase in the salary of the Barbour County sheriff has received final passage in the regular session of the Alabama Legislature. The act, which becomes effective on the first day of the third month following its passage, raises the annual salary of the sheriff by $29,000.
