75 YEARS AGO JUNE 11, 1948 Tubby Daniel, Charles DeVane and Tommy Warr, all of Clayton High School, are representing the Barbour County American Legion Post No. 14, Clayton, at Boy’s State, which is being held at the University of Alabama this week.
Six graduates in the Class of 2023 who attended schools in Barbour County are the recipients of Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarships. Four graduates are from The Lakeside School in Eufaula and two are graduates from Eufaula High School.

A decorated veteran of the United States Army was recognized with the dedication of a portion of U.S. Highway 431 in Eufaula named in his memory.
The Clayton Senior Center will not reopen as anticipated in June. Barbour County commissioners closed the senior site on October 1, 2022 in an effort to address concerns that had developed and did not address plans to reopen it until March. Commissioner Rachel Smith, who represents Clayton on the county commission, said SARCOA (South Alabama Regional Council on Aging) in Dothan is implementing new guidelines for all of its centers on July 1. SARCOA is the agency that operates all senior centers in this region of the state.
One arrest has been made for the April 24 burglary of the Alabama Beverage Control store in Clayton and additional arrests are anticipated. Tremendous Young, 25, of Clayton was arrested and charged with Third Degree Burglary, First Degree Theft and Criminal Mischief, according to a news release from the State Bureau of Investigation on May 18.
Students who will be attending Barbour County High School next year will see a difference in their scheduling. Rather than having classes on a Block Schedule, they will use a traditional seven-period class schedule.
