Vehicle rams into residence

Residents inside a home on East Louisville Street (Peanut Butter Hill) were shaken when a vehicle driven by Marshun Rodrequiez McClendon of Clayton rammed into the home around 11:00 Thursday night. Lucy Jones said she was getting ready to go to bed when she heard a loud noise only to find out that a car had crashed into her house.

AG announces Upshaw’s conviction

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the conviction of former Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw on a felony ethics charge Tuesday. Upshaw, 52, of Eufaula appeared in Barbour County Circuit Court in 2021 and pled guilty to allegations charging him with using his office or official position for personal gain, a class B felony.

Ventress inmate dies at prison

An inmate incarcerated at Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased on June 21. According to information released by the Alabama Department of Corrections, Jason Wayne Chambers was discovered unresponsive in his dorm about 11:45 p.m.

Man dies of fatal shot to head

A warrant was obtained Monday for a Mt. Andrew man for murder after he admittedly fired a fatal shot that killed Derrick Kentrell Walker, also of the Mt. Andrew Community, last week. Woodson Jarrod Thorn, Jr., 22, a resident of Miller Road, was arrested Tuesday.

Commission approves light repairs

Barbour County Commissioners accepted a bid from Higgins Electric of Dothan in the amount of $9,710 to replace one damaged light post and eight lights in the parking lot of the Eufaula courthouse during the regularly scheduled monthly meeting held last Tuesday, June 13. According to commissioners the damaged light post was the result of a vehicle accident in February of this year.
