Pea River Electric Annual Meeting slated for July 14-15
The 2023 Annual Membership Meeting of Pea River Electric Cooperative is set for Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15. The annual meeting will be held in two sessions to accommodate the greatest number of cooperative members. A business meeting will be held Friday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the Flowers Center in Ozark. The Flowers Center is located at the intersection of E. College St. and Carroll Ave. in Ozark. The purpose of this business session will be to discuss and pass on reports of the previous fiscal year, receive annual meeting and operational reports, and any other business that may be properly presented. Registration for the Friday night session will begin at 5:00 p.m.

Eufaula Pilgrimage awarded Best of Bama 2023 in Alabama Magazine
The Eufaula Spring Pilgrimage has recently received an award for Best of Bama 2023 in The annual Pilgrimage was voted best Heritage Tour in Alabama in 2023. The awards are voted on by readers of Alabama Magazine which is published six times a year out of Birmingham.
Deputies make drug arrest
Barbour County deputies arrested a man on drug charges after a traffic stop on Highway 30 on June 27. Deputy Joseph Cooner noticed that the driver of a silver Toyota Tacoma traveling west on Highway 30 with an expired tag.
County awarded supplemental funds
Barbour County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. Barbour County was chosen to receive $7,774 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

Turkey harvest up: Debate continues on population
Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources According to Game Check reports, turkey hunters in Alabama harvested almost 2,500 more birds during the 2023 season than the 2022 season. Whether that’s an encouraging indication of the turkey population in the state is subject to significant debate. Hunters reported taking 18,122 birds during the 2023 season, compared to 15,673 during the 2022 season and 14,947 during the 2021 season. Those are Game Check numbers, and Steven Mitchell, the upland game coordinator with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) Division, said the results of the annual post-season hunter survey are not yet available. Mitchell is concerned that hunters are not reporting their harvests through Game Check as mandated.
