Tuesday is the Fourth of July, a national holiday. Most businesses will be closed and we anticipate closing out next week’s issue of The Record on Monday. We ask that anyone who has anything they would like to include to please get it to us at least by Friday. We appreciate your cooperation and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. ***** Alabama now has an official state cookie among its state symbols. Seniors at Trinity Presbyterian School came up with the idea and thus the Mary Claire Cook’s Yellowhammer Cookie was judged the best cookie and received the recognition.

The hospitality industry in Eufaula and Barbour County is one of its major industries. Visitors participating in the Eufaula Pilgrimage or tournament fisherman hoping to land a big lunker on Lake Eufaula all bring big dollars to the City of Eufaula and the county. Attractive welcome signs along the entrance ways to cities vying for some of this travel business alert visitors to what is in store for them in the city they are visiting. You have to look no further than Abbeville, Alabama to see an example of an exceptionally well designed welcome sign. But that was, obviously, done through the efforts of a community booster.
One of my earliest memories was picking blackberries. I probably three years old at the time - was so small I could barely reach the blackberry brakes that bordered the property of my Cousin Ricky.
