An interesting tidbit of information popped up last week we thought was interesting. On February 16, 1968, the very first 911 call was made in Haleyville, AL. From that inaugural call, we now have advanced to text messaging, hearing impaired resources, language interpretation devices, and GPS that have taken the place of the printed road maps. Our vehicles still have road maps but it’s much easier to enter an address in the GPS which leads us to our destinations. The year 1968 doesn’t seem too long ago to some people but a lot of advancements have been made in 54 years in the technology world!

Historical move

Offices located in the Eufaula courthouse will reopen in their new locations Monday. Offices have been closed this week to relocate from the historic structure on Broad Street to the multi-million dollar renovated facility on Barbour Street.

Broadband package passes in Alabama Senate

The Alabama Senate passed a series of broadbandrelated bills, including a proposed increase to the minimum service threshold for internet, an increase to minimum bandwidth for broadband services, and a constitutional amendment to allow the federal funds or other monies designated for broadband to be granted to public and private entities broadband expansion.

75 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 14, 1947 Sixteen Junior Homemakers of the Clayton Chapter of Future Homemakers of America receive their Chapter Homemakers degrees and thirteen pledges became Junior Homemakers during a beautiful and inspirational ceremony Friday afternoon, presided over by Chapter president, Bobbie Smith. Receiving the Chapter Homemakers degree were: Bette Abercrombie, Maril Neil Bland, Billie Jean Boyd, Dorothy Boyd, Betty Hancock, Kathryn Helms, Mildred Jenkins, Ann Floyd Martin, Biliray Nix, Carolyn Snead, Jeannette Warr, Jeanette Whittington, Lucile Martin, Grace Williamson, Marion Faircloth, and Dorothy McGilvary.

God Loves All People

In the last few months I have come to an understanding that God loves all people. I probably always knew that, but never really could grasp it. It is difficult for me to understand how God can do this. It is difficult for me to love all people, much less like them. How can God love all people, even those who do not know him? How can God love people who deny his existence and even question his motives? Does he really love all people?

Sunday night’s Super Bowl seemed to be one of the most exciting in years. It was tense until the final seconds when the Los Angeles Rams made a touchdown and then stopped the Cincinnati Bengals to end the game with a close 23-20 victory. The Rams had their own cheering squad right here in Barbour County who supported the Rams’ General Manager Les Snead, a native of Eufaula.

Two exciting professional football games were played Sunday to determine who would advance to the Super Bowl. Locally, many people were pulling for the Las Angeles Rams since their General Manager, Les Snead, is a native of Eufaula. The Rams pulled off a victory defeating the San Franciso 49ers 20-17. The Cincinnati Bengals won by a field goal over the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24. The Rams and the Bengals will compete in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 13.
