Local community newspapers that provide readers with content with news items that are happening in their areas are becoming more rare as time goes by. Only a few months ago, it was announced in major daily newspapers in the state, The Huntsville Times, The Birmingham News and The Mobile Press Register, that they would no longer publish print editions.
75 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 13, 1948 Allen Baxley of the Bakerhill 4-H Club and Herman Williams of the Clio 4-H Club tied for high yields, each making 70 bushels of corn per acre for the year. There were 26 4H Club members participating in the corn project.
With the blooming of the Tulip Trees and the Daffodils and Buttercups popping up everywhere, they give us a glimpse of the promise that spring is on the way - 31 days to be exact! So, we only have a few more cold days before those warm days will be here to stay!! Maybe the groundhog has it wrong!

Punxsutawney Phil, the weather prognosticating groundhog, was summoned from his tree stump at dawn last Thursday on Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, PA to learn if he has seen his shadow - and they say he did. According to folklore, if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t spring will come early. So keep those coats, gloves and boots out a little longer!! ***** We know everyone is looking forward to the Super Bowl Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs play the Philadelphia Eagles. A lot of people look forward to the halftime show and the ads that air during the game. It was announced that Rihanna, one of the biggest pop artists of the past two decades, will be headliner for the halftime show. She was born on a small island of Barbados and has become the youngest selfmade billionaire woman making the Forbes’ Billionaires List for the first time in April of 2022. Chris Stapleton, country music icon, will sing the National Anthem for opening ceremonies. It should be a great night of football and entertainment!
Grab your binoculars and head outside Thursday night to catch a glimpse of the Green Comet. According to scientists, the Comet will be closest to the Earth Thursday. The bright green comet is set to swing by Earth’s outer space for the first time in 50,000 years! NASA officials said the icy visitor could possibly become visible to the unaided eye under dark skies. Since it takes the comet about 50,000 years to orbit the sun, this is our one and only opportunity to see this celestial body. ****** After winning their championships over the weekend, the Philadelphia Eagles (NFC Champs) and the Kansas City Chiefs (AFC Champs) will meet for the first time in the 2023 Super Bowl on February 12. The Eagles will be making their fourth appearance and the Chiefs are making their fifth appearance. The Eagles completed their season with a 16-3-1 record under Head Coach Nick Sirianni who was hired in January of 2021. The Chiefs finished the season with a 16-3 overall record under Head Coach Andy Reid. Reid is in his 10th season with the Chiefs. So, all you football fans get ready for a great game of football!!!This game appears to have two of the best matched teams in years!
