It was a soggy Saturday for all the children who were excited about their annual tradition of hunting Easter eggs. Many hunts were planned, some went forward in the rain, others moved inside, and yet others were canceled. There’s one thing about it, we can’t control the weather. This cool snap has us pulling out our jackets once again after seasonally warm temperatures last week. Anyway, we hope everyone had a wonderful Easter at worship services, family gatherings and other social events. From all indications from pictures on social media, all the family gatherings were memorable.

Special section promotes pilgrimage

We were honored last year to be approached concerning the publication of the “Pink Edition” that promotes the annual pilgrimage in Eufaula hosted by the Eufaula Heritage Association. We took on the task and not really knowing what we were facing, we soon discovered that we had tremendous support for the publication.

Broadband expansion

During the recent special session, we allocated $260 million in ARPA dollars to help the state continue building its broadband infrastructure. Alabama has made significant investments over the past five years to expand broadband access across the state, and as a result, we are making great progress towards bringing high-speed internet to unserved communities throughout Alabama.

75 YEARS AGO APRIL 2, 1948 Miss Hilda Strickland of Clayton was a visitor to Birmingham last week where she spoke in the Knights of Pythias Contest. The subject of the speeches was “The Gifts of Ancient Greece to the Modern World.” Miss Strickland, who placed second in the contest, was given a trip by the organization sponsoring the contest.
