Once again, we enjoyed some out-of-town visitors who came by The Record office recently. Jimmy Parr from Valparaiso, FL said he is once again hoping to have a good crowd at the annual Blue Springs School Reunion at the State Park. While he said the numbers are fewer, it’s still fun to get together. We also got to visit with Calvin and Shirley Spencer of Lawrence, Kansas who were in town for a family reunion. Thanks for stopping by to visit and renew your subscriptions!

Several visitors came by The Record office last week we haven’t seen in quite a while. John Baxley, a native of Clayton who now lives in North Carolina, surprised us with a visit. We enjoyed catching up on things with John. Also, Don Corbitt and his sister from Alabaster dropped by to see us. We enjoyed sharing some of the “good ole days” with them. In the past, it was customary that many people would stop by the office but in today’s world, it seems we communicate so much more via emails and text messages. We miss those face-to-face dialogs!

We were encouraged by the number of Barbour County citizens who attended one or both of the public hearings held to discuss the need for funding for Medical Center Barbour in Eufaula. A lot of input was offered from the public and hospital personnel were available to explain the financial situation the hospital is facing as well as offering reasons that the hospital is facing this crisis.

We came to work Monday morning on a holiday with the banks and all government buildings closed. There’s not many Monday holidays we can observe because of our deadlines but this Monday there was a lot going on at the ABC store near The Record office. We soon found out that a large amount of beverages had been taken during the night and damages were done to the building. It so happened a convenience store also was unlawfully entered. What is going on that some people do not respect others and property? It’s sad that some people find it okay to cause damage to others and steal. We just pray these predators get caught and are prosecuted. ****** It’s that time of year when we see a lot of farming equipment on the roads. Fields are being prepared for planting new crops. Motorists are asked to be patient and use caution when they meet these large pieces of equipment.
