Mrs. Besfanette Whitaker celebrates 100th birthday
Mrs. Besfanette Whitaker--the last living child of Ben C. and Bessie L. Britt of Clayton, Alabama--was celebrated on the occasion of her 100th birthday in Moultrie, Georgia this month. A Centennial Luncheon, which was attended by a host of her family and friends from all over the country, was held at Mother Easter Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitaker is known to be a 'Champion of the Lemon Tree', and in her zeal for the favorable health properties of this fruit, she has provided education, seeds, and seedlings all over the country, including Clayton and Eufaula.


Jones Chapel AME Church added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage
One of Clayton’s oldest churches has been recognized and added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage by the Alabama Historical Commission. Jones Chapel AME Church located on Martin Luther King Avenue was officially given this distinction and signed by Governor Kay Ivey on May 19, 2023.




The Nature of Human Nature
So often I find myself doing things or saying things I should not do or say. I’ve heard some people blame the Devil for their behavior. I think it’s more a matter of human nature. So now I’m wondering, is it the Devil or my human nature?
Evergreen Baptist Church to celebrate 150 years this Sunday
Evergreen Baptist Church will celebrate its 150th Anniversary on Sunday, July 27. The public is invited to attend this historic occasion beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a covered dish lunch following in the Fellowship Hall. This quaint church, located west of Clayton off of Highway 239, has sustained through years by the leadership of the pastors that have served this small country church by sharing the word and love of God. Their dedication has enriched and transformed lives and brought people together for fellowship for a century and half.

Celebrates 90th Birthday
Mrs. Sylvia Banks (Momma Banks) celebrated her 90th birthday on Thursday, July 10th. Family and friends gathered from near and far for a three-day event to help her celebrate this special occasion. The celebration was held at the Event Center in downtown Clayton. Special guests in attendance were her children, Scott Banks, Minister Bobby Banks and Ronald Farrior; and her brothers, Ron Richardson and Jeff Richardson, who went to Super Bowl III with the Jets.
