Court to review congressional map

The new map realigning the state’s seven congressional districts legislators approved in a special session is once again under the scrutiny of a three-judge district court. A hearing will begin on August 14 to determine if the districts meet the required two majority Black voting age populations.

Deputies arrest woman on multiple drug charges

A routine traffic stop for the absence of a tag resulted in the arrest of an Abbeville woman on multiple drug charges by a Barbour County deputy. Deputy Jerad Ingram noticed a brown Jeep as he was traveling on Margaret Drive in Eufaula that had no vehicle tag so he initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was occupied by the driver and one passenger. The driver’s information returned with no problems but the passenger had warrants on her from Henry County.

BCHS Jags plan Parents Meet/ Greet football coaches event

Football season is here and the upcoming campaign will kick off with games less than four weeks from now. The Barbour County High Jaguars are planning a Parents Meet/Greet the football coaches from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday August 8th at the BCHS gymnasium. All BCHS football coaches will be present to meet parents, community and BCSD employees. New head football coach Derrick Levette, who was previously the head football coach at Bullock County, takes over the Jaguar program. He replaces Daniel Powell, who has left the system. The team finished 0-10 last year.
