Barbour County Commissioner Pat Ivey pressed the issue concerning the vacated courthouse in Eufaula at last week’s regular meeting of the commission. She made a motion to acquire an appraisal on the building that was vacated in February 2022 which quickly received a second from Commissioner Frances Person-Crews.
Chaos broke out at last week’s Clayton City Council meeting when Councilman Charles L. Weston brought up an incident concerning the city business licenses. Weston had requested to amend the agenda at the beginning of the meeting in order for the council to discuss this issue. All council members, along with Mayor Kathy Thomas, voted to amend the agenda.
Searches continue for a man in rural Bullock County who has been missing since August 5. Steven “Bryan” Peel, 36, was reported missing after his wife was unable to make contact with him after talking to him on that Saturday.

In August 1998, Parkview Baptist Church opened the doors of the Eufaula Care Center in Eufaula, Alabama, for the very first time. Their hope was to create an outreach ministry for a vulnerable community.
A fatal crash claimed the lives of three people, two from Louisville, early Friday evening. The victims were identified as Jeffrey James Little, 25, and Emmaleigh Margaret (Emma) Welch, 18, both residents of Louisville, and Nicholas D’Wayne Gordon, 25, of Echo.
Football season is here and the upcoming campaign will kick off with games less than four weeks from now. The Barbour County High Jaguars are planning a Parents Meet/Greet the football coaches from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday August 8th at the BCHS gymnasium. All BCHS football coaches will be present to meet parents, community and BCSD employees. New head football coach Derrick Levette, who was previously the head football coach at Bullock County, takes over the Jaguar program. He replaces Daniel Powell, who has left the system. The team finished 0-10 last year.
