County projects receive grant funding

Several outstanding programs in Barbour County received a much needed boost in funding from the Wiregrass Resource Conservation & Development Council (RC&D). During a presentation held at Shorter Mansion in Eufaula last week, each recipient gave a brief synopsis of their project and the assets it offers to the people they serve.

Beasley faces Libertarian candidate

Voters will go to the various voting places in Barbour County Tuesday to participate in the election of officials who will serve in federal, state, and local offices. They will be given one ballot that will include the names of candidates who are their respective party nominees and will be asked to vote for one candidate.

The 3rd Quarter publication of the Alabama Trucking Association’s magazine feature Chris Cooper, a Clayton native, and Boyd Bros. Transportation Company. Copper has “Family Ties” as the new chairman of the ATA board. The article said Cooper has a “Legacy of Leadership” as the third generation in the family to serve as ATA board chairman. It included a great picture of Dempsey Boyd, his grandfather and founder of Boyd Bros., in his office in Clayton taken in the 1990s and a picture of him with his mother, Gail Boyd Cooper, of Clayton.

Mrs. Ivey receives 20-year service award

Barbour County Commissioner Pat Ivey has received the distinguished recognition for 20 years of service to county government in the state of Alabama. The recognition was made when she was presented with the Tenure in Office Award by the Association of County Commissions of Alabama at the association’s 94th annual convention held in August.

MOTORCYCLE CLUB PRESENTS DONATION

Members of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club rode through Clayton Saturday to present a donation in the amount of $1,500 to be split between the Barbour County Humane Society and the county’s Animal Control Program. The Watchmen Charter which is based in Eufaula hosted their 9th Annual Summer Slam Party and Fundraiser held to raise donations to benefit area nonprofits.
